New HBO Drama Series INDUSTRY Debuts November 9

0

From first-time creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, HBO’s new eight-episode drama series INDUSTRY debuts MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) and follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited number of permanent positions at a leading international bank in London. The series will air on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.

Starring Myha’la Herrold (“The Tattooed Heart”), Marisa Abela (“Cobra”), Harry Lawtey (“City of Tiny Lights”), David Jonsson (“Deep State”) and Nabhaan Rizwan (“Mogul Mowgli”) as “The Graduates” and Conor MacNeill (“Artemis Fowl”), Freya Mavor (“Skins”), Will Tudor (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) and Ken Leung (HBO’s “High Maintenance”) as “Management,” INDUSTRY gives an insider’s view of the blackbox of “high finance” through the eyes of an outsider, Harper Stern (Myha’la Herrold), a talented young woman from upstate New York. Through the eyes of these young grads fueled by ambition, romance and drugs, INDUSTRY examines issues of gender, race and class in the workplace as the impressionable new employees begin to forge an identity within the pressure cooker environment of Pierpoint & Co.’s trading floor. They were promised meritocracy, but hierarchy is king.

Having come to London from New York to join the prestigious Pierpoint & Co., Harper will stop at nothing to prove herself the best hire in her graduate class. Harper’s drive intensifies as she finds herself surrounded by people born into privilege, like Yasmin (Marisa Abela) who, despite her background, faces her own challenges. Yasmin has had different expectations placed on her since childhood and is tired of being underestimated professionally. At Pierpoint, Harper and Yasmin need to prove their worth as professionals amongst their fellow grads. One of their peers is Robert (Harry Lawtey), who joins the bank from a working-class background, believing it a true meritocracy where putting on a suit will help distance himself from his past. In contrast, Robert’s roommate Gus (David Jonsson) was built for institutions like Pierpoint, having come from Eton and Oxford, and sees it as another tick on a checklist that will lead him straight to Downing Street. Doe-eyed Hari (Nabhaan Rizwan) has dreamt of working in banking his whole life, dresses like a modern “master of the universe” and is determined to succeed no matter the cost.

In the hierarchical ecosystem of Pierpoint, the graduates look aspirationally up at the Managing Directors whom they sit next to while those senior figures are secretly looking down fearfully, wondering who’s going to take their seat. On the sales desk (CPS), Managing Director Eric (Ken Leung) is Pierpoint’s number one producer who sees Harper’s potential and takes her under his wing, while VP Daria (Freya Mavor) is a great counterpoint to Eric’s aggressive sales strategy and shows Harper that there’s more than one way to be a salesperson. Yasmin’s direct line manager on the foreign exchange (FX) desk is Kenny (Conor MacNeill), a VP whose prejudices cloud his judgement of her merit. Meanwhile, Theo (Will Tudor) is a second-year research analyst whose establishment charm and strong counter-consensus market calls make him a Pierpoint poster boy. The young recruits may be fresh out of university, but the demands and expectations of these mentors and the industry itself are sky-high and ultimately seduce the grads to act in ways they would not have expected, just as they are trying to figure out who they are.

Episodes include:

Season 1, Episode 1: “Induction”
Debut date: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT)
Five young graduates do whatever it takes to make themselves indispensable at preeminent London investment bank Pierpoint & Co. As hungry outsider Harper (Myha’la Herrold) grapples with a decision that will gravely affect her future at the bank, she and party-boy Robert (Harry Lawtey) take very different approaches to their first few weeks in the bank. Meanwhile, Yasmin (Marisa Abela) braves the unchecked disrespect of her superiors and Hari’s (Nabhaan Rizwan) unhealthy work habits raise companywide red flags.
Written by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay; Directed by Lena Dunham.

Season 1, Episode 2: “Quiet and Nice”
Debut date: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT)
With Harper (Myha’la Herrold) struggling to find her feet in a new city, Pierpoint throws a morale-boosting appreciation dinner which sees her challenging a drunken, irate Kenny (Conor MacNeill), while Gus (David Jonsson) alienates senior management by discussing his team’s future. Meanwhile, Yasmin (Marisa Abela) comes face to face with the culture of her new team and takes her flirtation with Robert (Harry Lawtey) to risky new heights.
Written by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay; Directed by Tinge Krishnan.

Season 1, Episode 3: “Notting Hill”
Debut date: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT)
When Pierpoint loses a major client, the grads face their most challenging – and potentially rewarding – test to date: devising pitches to drive new business. After the dissolution of his team finds him reassigned to a disinterested new supervisor, a creative Gus (David Jonsson) partners with Robert (Harry Lawtey) to catch Clement’s (Derek Riddell) attention. Meanwhile, as she navigates a complicated living situation with Yasmin (Marisa Abela), Harper (Myha’la Herrold) attempts to juggle conflicting requests from Eric (Ken Leung) and Daria (Freya Mavor).
Written by Sam H. Freeman; Directed by Tinge Krishnan.

Season 1, Episode 4: “Sesh”
Debut date: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT)
After a wild birthday celebration with Robert (Harry Lawtey), Yasmin (Marisa Abela), and Greg (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Harper’s (Myha’la Herrold) workday spirals out of control. As a discrepancy in one of her trades puts her team at risk for major losses, Harper seeks support from a surprising source, while unexpected trouble at a networking event brings Yasmin and Robert closer and Gus (David Jonsson) further alienates his coworkers.
Written by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay; Directed by Ed Lilly.

Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens in South Florida

PINECREST, Fla.Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Faced with cancelling an all-star jazz series due to the pandemic, Pinecrest Gardens in Miami-Dade County, Florida will host ‘JazzAid Live from the Banyan Bowl’ to both help feed America and bring jazz masters to the homes and hearts of viewers nationwide. A generous percentage of the proceeds from the COVID-19 relief fundraiser will go directly to World Central Kitchen, an organization that uses the power of food to heal and strengthen communities through times of crisis and beyond that was founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés.

JazzAid Live from the Banyan Bowl will kick off with a live performance by international superstar Jon Secada, broadcast from the acoustically magnificent Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Additionally, as part of the eight-show concert series, jazz fans will enjoy performances by three-time Grammy Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, the world-renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra, award-winning trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, acclaimed saxophonist, singer and composer Grace Kelly, child prodigy Joey Alexander, and multi-Grammy Award winning The Manhattan Transfer. “We are determined to keep the music alive this season by using technology to broadcast our stellar lineup of world-famous jazz musicians directly into the homes of everyone across the globe,” said Pinecrest Gardens Executive Director Alana Perez. “By fundraising for World Central Kitchen, we are able to serve a dual purpose, which is to also provide food relief for those communities and individuals that have been impacted the most by the pandemic. We encourage music lovers of all ages to buy a single show or purchase the series and share these wonderful concerts with friends and family in the safety and comfort of their own homes.”

Now in its 11th year, Pinecrest Gardens’ popular jazz series has brought some of jazz music’s hottest and biggest names to South Florida. The series sells out year after year as a result of a thriving community of music lovers. Perez adds, “Historically, with nearly all of our seats sold to season subscribers each year, many fans are forced to miss seeing some of their favorite performers live. Now, everyone will be able to catch the shows while supporting a worthy cause.”

JazzAid Live from the Banyan Bowl will be filmed by a professional, five-camera concert production crew on site at Pinecrest Gardens’ Banyan Bowl, which is nestled inside of one of Florida’s most beloved botanical gardens and tourist attractions, the former Parrot Jungle. PHOENIXOct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Still deciding what your pet should be for Halloween? If you’re among the estimated 29 million people planning to dress up their pets this year, pumpkins, hot dogs and superheroes are among the most popular costume choices.

New survey results by the National Retail Federation has cats and bumblebees rounding out the top five most popular pet costumes for Halloween 2020. The results show that 10 percent of pet lovers will dress their animal in a pumpkin costume, while six percent will dress their cat or dog as a hot dog, five percent as a superhero, and three percent of dogs will go as a cat.

Fortunately, PetSmart is ready to help pet parents embrace this year’s trends, with a variety of pumpkinhot dog and superhero costumes for dogs and cats, and a cat costume for dogs.

Keep it fun, keep it safe
Halloween may look a little different this year as people adjust their celebrations, but having a fun and safe time with your pet is completely possible, says Dr. Jennifer Freeman, DVM, PetSmart’s resident veterinarian and pet care expert.

“If you choose to celebrate Halloween by dressing up your pet this year, it’s important to carefully introduce costumes to your pet so they don’t get stressed,” said Freeman. “Begin by using simple accessories like a bandana instead of a full-fledged outfit. If they allow something simple, reward them with a treat and some praise, then gradually introduce additional costume items to put your pet at ease.”

She added that costumes should always allow full free movement so pets can walk, bark, meow, eat and drink without difficulty. Also, it’s important to ensure there aren’t any attached or accompanying accessories that are easy to chew and/or swallow.

Finally, it’s also a good idea to consider things like the weather. Because pets can overheat easily, make sure their clothing is not too bulky or heavy if the weather is warm. Watch for elastic features around the paw area and be certain there is enough room around the widest area of the chest. If a dog can easily trip over the legs, try another type of costume. If your pet looks uncomfortable, they probably are, so pay extra attention to your pet if/when around other pets as it can be difficult to notice any discomfort if they’re wearing a costume.

Janelle Monáe Closes The First Season Of HBO’s LOVECRAFT COUNTRY With A Virtual Reality Concert Experience

LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY

To celebrate the season finale of the new series LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, HBO will close out their Lovecraft Country: Sanctum Social VR experience by transporting invited guests into Music of the Cosmos.

In this first-of-its-kind, groundbreaking social VR experience, 100 select influential voices have experienced a series of events consisting of immersive theater, escape rooms, art installations and puzzles via the Oculus Quest headset. The final event is a virtual reality concert given by Janelle Monáe, eight-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, leading film and TV actress and record producer, who will be giving fans an out of this world performance, and her first ever performance in virtual reality.

The LOVECRAFT COUNTRY season finale airs this Sunday at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, at which point the complete first season and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The first episode of LOVECRAFT COUNTRY has reached more than 9 million viewers across all platforms, and it has been the #1 series on HBO Max since its debut in August.

“I’m so excited to partner with HBO and The Mill to pioneer the future of concert experiences in Sanctum,” said Janelle Monáe. “I always strive for innovation, and this project gives me the special opportunity to celebrate Lovecraft Country, a show I’m a huge fan of, and connect with fans in a completely new way using virtual reality. This is the perfect platform to explore the impact of music and movement in a new dimension designed to celebrate Black art, stories and voices.”

The musical experience re-imagines the future of performances and live events, featuring a virtual environment that is interactive and directly impacted by the artist’s physical performance. Ahead of Monáe’s set, guests will be invited into The Reliquary, a mystery room hosted by LOVECRAFT COUNTRY’S Michael Kenneth Williams, that will be littered with artifacts from throughout the show and virtual experience — each with an accompanying audio snippet narrated by Williams.

“As long-standing fans we couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with Janelle Monáe on this uniquely immersive virtual reality concert experience,” said Dana Flax, VP of Program Marketing at HBO. “Through her art and her activism, Janelle embodies the spirit of innovation, justice and Black joy that makes her the perfect artist to help us send off Lovecraft Country’s first season.”

Each event has been simultaneously run on the social VR platform VRChat, which allows guests to talk and interact with each other in real time within the environment, and streamed to the world via YouTube Live. Fans on the YouTube Live stream are also able to interact in real-time, solving riddles to trigger spells that directly impact the experience.

“Our third and final event Music of the Cosmos ends Lovecraft Country: Sanctum with a celebration of the series. Inspired by the ‘50s Chicago block party featured in the first episode of LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, the final experience takes you to a block party set in a virtual world,” said Aline Ridolfi, Lovecraft Experience Director. “Using techniques like projection mapping and dynamic, interactive set design, the concert will see Janelle control the space with her performance. All aspects of the environment from the choreography and set design, to the lighting, will interact in a way that wouldn’t  be possible within a traditional concert set-up.”

Lovecraft Country: Sanctum was developed as a Social VR space to expand the possibilities of what the future of theatre, games, art installations, concerts, and live events can be. Developed in partnership with Black artists, previous Lovecraft Sanctum events featured an Afrofuturist art show by David Alabo, Devan Shimoyama and Adeyemi Adegbesan, a theatrical performance inspired by the words of James Baldwin, adapted by LOVECRAFT COUNTRY writer Shannon Houston, and performed by star Jurnee Smollett, and voiceover performances by the series’ Jonathan Majors, Courtney B. Vance and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Sanctum was developed in partnership with HBO by creative production partner and experience studio The Mill, whose team of artists, coders and strategists developed the experience during global lockdown, in close collaboration with HBO’s marketing team.
